Fall sorting continues at an accelerated rate at Book Buddies to keep ahead of the books expected from ongoing book drives. The Reagan High School Honor Society arrived on November 4 ready to work, and they did—organizing and packing hundreds of unsorted books.
On November 18 there were thirty-four busy sorters at Book Buddies headquarters in the former WW White Elementary School gym. This was a Book Buddies record for dedicated volunteers working at the same time! Gathering to help us out were Brownie Troop 573, UTSA Voices (in an encore performance), and assorted friends of Book Buddies, including the entire Swint/Scott family. Many, many thanks to all who signed up to help. And special thanks to Volunteer Chair Maria Bush and her crew who kept everybody organized.
The Book Drive Committee under the able leadership of Maria Salinas is looking for more organizations willing to host book drives. Remember: any group can run a great drive.Just email bookbuddies@saylonline.wpengine.comfor information and any help you need. Or you can just run your drive and contact us for pickup. There are lots of kids out there in Title I schools waiting eagerly for those books. It’s an easy and fun way to combat the low level of literacy in San Antonio.
