For the month of December we are highlighting one of our newer partnerships with Accenture Federal Services (AFS). This is AFS’ second year participating in the Reading Buddy Program, and it is all in thanks to two people, Yvette Spivey and Jasmine Buendicho.
Yvette first learned about the SAYL Reading Buddy Program while a student at UIW three years ago. While completing a community service requirement for graduation, she learned about SAYL and become a Reading Buddy volunteer. After graduating and taking the position with AFS’Laureate’s location, she started to spread the word about the Reading Buddy Program by coordinating Lunch-n-Learn presentations and trainings for new volunteers.
“An hour a week helps to improve my community. That hour helps to create unity. It also gives a child a different perspective from my experiences, and the experiences that they are creating during Reading Buddy sessions,” stated Yvette.
The word has kept spreading about the program at AFS also thanks to Jasmine Buendicho. As AFS’ New Joiner Orientation Coordinator, she is one of the first people that new joiners (new hires) meet. Because of her advocation about SAYL, AFS has steadily increased their numbers from last year.
We truly appreciate our partnership with Accenture Federal Services and all the work Yvette and Jasmine do to recruit and inform their fellow coworkers. Thank you for all you do!
