“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, by A.A. Milne
It is hard to believe that it has been a month already since we said goodbye to our Reading Buddies and wished them all that is good for their futures. Many of us will be fortunate to see our young charges in the Fall as we begin again with 2 new students. They will greet us with excitement and joy of the memories of our days together and wish for us to once again share time with them. For now, though, we must trust that the skills and confidence that evolved over our time together are well planted and will continue to grow as we sow new seeds.
So, we don’t vacation here at SAYL. We are busy with the start of our summer programing, Camp Read Aloud. Some of you may be volunteering for this inspiring opportunity. We are once again partnering with Catholic Charities and the Ella Austin Center and this year we have added a new partner, the San Antonio Housing Authority at the Cassiano Apartments. What a great opportunity to come together for the children of San Antonio to make reading and related activities a part of their summer break. Thank you, partner agencies and summer Reading Buddies, for joining us!
For those of you who are taking a break, we look forward to seeing you again next month as we start to gear up for the 2019-2020 school year. This time of year always brings memories of childhood when we felt like summer was slipping away too quickly only to experience a few weeks later the anticipation of new school clothes, school supplies and renewed friendships offered by the start of school. Thank you, as always, for being a Reading Buddy and/or charitable donor. Truly, without you we would not be here for the children.
