A Note from Our Executive Director
This month I am just going to say a big THANK YOU to everyone and anyone who either helped to plan, worked on, or participated in our annual fundraising luncheon. It was a great success, not only from a financial point of view, but also for the enlightenment provided by our panel, Dr. Brian Gottardy, Mr. Pedro Martinez and Dr. Brian Woods and moderator, Mr. Bob Rivard of The Rivard Report. The audience and community at large learned about the the current state of 3rd grade literacy in Bexar County in particular, and education in Texas in general. Read more here…

This year our goal is to provide several books to every child in eight schools – double our achievement last year. But for that we need LOTS of gently-used children’s books suitable for children from Pre-K through Grade 5. Read more here…

Site Director Spotlight
Our Site Director for October is Ms. Beth Fouse, the Instructional Interventionist for Northern Hills Elementary. She has served as our Site Director for the past six years, and has gone above and beyond to help the SAYL Reading Program get off to a smooth start. She has personally come to meet with all of our Reading Buddies for their first session and has given each a tour of possible locations for tutoring.

Donor Spotlight
A huge THANK YOU to the following organizations for their ongoing support:
We would also like to recognize an anonymous donor who purchased two new titles, “Pet Show” and “Lola at the Library” for the Reading Buddy Program. Our anonymous donor purchased enough copies of each book to include in all our Reading Buddy trunks, a combined total of 140 books! We appreciate your generous donation and we think the students are going to love these new titles!
