Hats off to our January school of the month – Wilson Elementary in SAISD! Our Site Director, Ms. De Leon has been a great help and has worked hard to make the Reading Buddy program a priority at her school.
Ms. De Leon took over the role as our Site Director at the start of the school year. Having some of her own classroom students partake in the program in previous years, she has seen first-hand the positive impact the Reading Buddies has made with their students. “Last year I personally had two students that experienced gains and moved up several levels. The Reading Buddy program provided the confidence they needed to want to read and try their very best,” noted Ms. De Leon. She also feels that reading with children is very important as the students are exposed to a great deal of vocabulary and discussions that can open their mind to more critical thinking.
With her assistance serving as our Site Director this year, we have been able to triple our volunteer numbers from the previous year! She makes our Reading Buddies feel welcome and appreciated, and she helps us serve more than 20 students at her school. Thank you Ms. De Leon and the staff at Wilson Elementary for your continued support of the Reading Buddy program!
