This summer, SAYL welcomed new program manager Alyssa Delgado, and our new volunteer manager, Angela Rendon.
Alyssa grew up as the book loving daughter of a librarian in Brownsville, Texas and moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas in 2009. After receiving her BA in English, she moved to Shanghai, China to teach English for a year and later to Japan where she ended up staying for another 3 years. She moved to San Antonio in the summer of 2017 and continued her work in education at KIPP Aspire Academy. Alyssa was thrilled to join the SAYL team this summer and is looking forward to helping kids develop a passion for reading! When her nose isn’t buried in a book, she can most likely be found at a food truck or walking her dog at Hardberger Park. A fun fact about Alyssa, she won her elementary school’s spelling bee in 3rdgrade and still remembers her winning word (“cranium”)!
Angela joined SAYL in August 2018 and grew up in Killeen, Texas but has lived in San Antonio for twenty years. Prior to joining SAYL, she worked with Caring Solutions San Antonio and Texas Public Radio. Angela is happy to be here at SAYL to share her enthusiasm for reading and giving back to the community with our volunteers and the San Antonio community. She currently has a daughter in college and is passionate about helping kids build self-confidence within themselves and learn about the community and world around them through reading.
As a program manager for SAYL, Alyssa will be overseeing our Reading Buddy program at 30 campuses, including all of our NEISD partner schools. Angela will be helping to train and match all our awesome Reading Buddies to their schools. We are excited to have Alyssa and Angela as part of the SAYL family!
